Tomorrow we take the kids back home, well not all the way home, we will meet their mom in Tennessee. It is going to be hard to say good bye to them. The last seven weeks has just flown by. I feel like I didn’t get to do all the things I wanted with them We did have a great time though
So…today’s post will be short and mostly photos because we have to get up at 4am to hit the road.
We did some water training today but had to keep it somewhat short since temps were reaching almost 100 degrees with the humidity. The dogs really enjoyed the cool refreshing water. I felt like jumping in with them! And of course I forgot my camera so these were taken with my phone.

As you know from last weeks This ‘N That Thursday’s post we were spending last weekend attending the Judges Education Seminar. It was very hot in the afternoon each day but we kept the dogs hydrated and shaded, they had plenty of breaks in between sessions and even though it is a LOT of work we had a great time. We were able to present many wonderful Chessie’s for the judges to look at and get their hands on. There was a total of 16 judges between Saturday and Sunday and they all had very nice things to say about the presentation and the hands on demonstration.
The presenters on the right and the judges on the left going through the presentation before the hands on demo
And thanks to my friend Michelle for this photo of Maia, it’s hard to be the photographer when you’re the handler
I am very happy to say that for the water demo the Chessie blew them away…way to represent Millet!
Millet with her owner Rick
Millet was also the only retriever to pick up the goose
Training
I was finally able to get a video of Titan doing some mini T work, forgive the quality because I stood inside and shot the video through the window so I didn’t distract him but you will see near the beginning he did notice me but worked through it and listened to his trainer, Dave. I am also not very good at videos yet

Training
We were able to get some training in last Saturday, it was a beautiful day and we had a great time visiting with friends and having a nice lunch. We even did a little conformation work, I will just say Hailee and Riva need quite a bit of work
Dandy, she is so happy doing her work.
Mikey, he belongs to friends Vivian and Tom.
Okay, try as I might I could not get a good shot of Titan, this boy is so fast that by time I found him in my view finder he was already heading back with his bird, hence the butt shot!
Violet, she is a young dog but was on her game Saturday.
As you can see all the dogs were working in some cover but all did very well and were so eager to work. It was Dave and Michelle’s girl, Dutch, birthday so we brought a box of biscuits for her and shared them with all the dogs. Hailee made sure Dutch received extra, she is very fond of her.
This is them a few years ago; don’t know why I didn’t think of taking a current photo.
Weekend fun
This weekend we will be out of town doing the Judges Education seminar, you can find info about it here We have participated with this event for the past five years now and it is a great opportunity to help train our future judges. I hope I will be able to get some photos this year since I have my helper with me. Hailee is super excited about going, this will be her second time attending. This girl is always game to handle any dog we put her on and does a pretty good job.
Girl trouble
This past April Maia was in season, no biggie…WRONG! Now approximately 63-65 days later she thinks she has had puppies, she has been restless, whiney, and even howling when in her crate. All because she thinks she has given birth to not one but three latex babies. The funny thing about this whole thing is that the main latex baby is a replica of the one that was favorite of Riva’s, so much so she had to have it in the whelping box at all times with her before, during and after whelping. Like mother, like daughter! I finally took them all away today, time to wean the little buggers She is doing much better now, not so frantic, no whining so far…the joys of unaltered girls.
Well that’s all we have today…why don’t you hop on over to 2BrownDawgs grab the badge and join the fun.

Today we are joining our friends Jodi over at Heart Like A Dog and her co-hostess Kari, from Hound Girl for Follow-up Friday, the blog hop that lets you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.
Thanks Jodi!
Paws and Pedals asked…
“What’s on the collar? Some sort of training device??”
Thank you for asking, yes this is a training collar called an e-collar (electronic collar). This is a wonderful tool when doing our retriever training as long as it is used properly. A dog must be collar conditioned before you can use an e-collar, using collar corrections on lead for obedience commands the dog already knows; this teaches the dog the invisible connection between the dog and the handler that the collar provides. As with any training tool it is wise to seek the assistance of a professional to assure you are using the equipment properly. I am very fortunate I have the privilege of working with great trainers.

“What a good boy!! His training is coming along nicely.”
He is Jodi, and I am so excited to see him at a hunt test. I hope to be entering him in the next couple of months. He is such a great boy

Sand Spring Chesapeakes asked…
“Is that cotton wood blooms in the water?”
SUGAR: Golden Woofs asked…
“Is it raining?”
tarynft asked…
“What’s floating on the water?”
Sand Spring Chesapeakes you guessed it, cottonwood blooms. They were everywhere that day, I don’t think I have ever seen that many and so thick before. It was just like snow in 70 degree weather
Well that’s a wrap, why don’t you grab the badge and join the hop!
