A few years ago I found this dog cookie recipe in a magazine called “The Bark”, it is very easy but a little time consuming, well worth the effort though. My dogs love these and they are made with all natural ingredients so their good for them; in fact my nephew even eats them! So with all the warnings out there on so many treats that are imported give these a try and see what you and your dogs think
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup molasses
1 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable oil (I use olive oil)
4 tablespoons ground ginger
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
Place all ingredients in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly to combine. Roll out dough on floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Using cookie cutters cut into desired shapes. Combine dough scraps until all dough has been used. Place cookies on ungreased foil-lined (can also use parchment paper) baking sheets and bake in preheated 325 degree oven for 30-35 minutes. Cool completely, they will harden as they cool.
Yields 4-6 dozen depending on the size of your cookie cutters.
I did a big jar of these for a gift bag of goodies that were offered on our raffle table this past weekend at our supported dog show; so I did a theme, the state of Michigan for the Michigan dog club, a duck for what my breed retrieves and a squirrel well because most dogs like to chase them The squirrel and state are large cookie cutters and the duck is a medium cutter so I would guess the recipe made about 4 dozen.
