follow-up-friday

Thanks Jodi!

It has been a very busy week, my niece and nephew went home yesterday. So I was trying to pack in a lot of last minute things. My brother and I drove, (he drove I rode Winking smile) the kids to Tennessee yesterday to meet their mom. 575 long hot miles one way!! We left at 5am and didn’t get home until 2:30am this morning. I took Maia with us for the ride, this was her first time out of the state and she went through three states Smile  I was a bit worried how she would handle the ride but she traveled great.

So on with the follow-up…

I was pretty excited with how these photos went over with everyone and seems you all had the same thoughts..peaceful..tranquil..solitude! I love getting reflection shots, I have been trying hard to get a good dog water entry shot with reflection, nothing yet but you will be the first to know when I do Smile

Wordless Wednesday ~ In Flight

Sand Cranes

SlimDoggy (@MySlimDoggy) asked…

“Do your guys watch the birds in the sky?

Marcie asked…

“Did the dog’s ears perk up with those flying overhead?

SlimDoggy and Marcie I was so busy trying to get this shot I didn’t notice if they saw them. You see we were finding a good training location when my friend got out and started walking towards some very high cover with his camera, I thought he just saw a deer but after a few minutes these Sand-hill Cranes flew up out of all that high cover and I did not have my camera out and ready.

Dolly the Doxie asked…

“Did you chase them and try to catch one?

Oh no, those birds are pretty big Winking smile

I have a new blog I am following, Paulette over at Cape Cod Browndogs, this is a fb friend who started a blog to write about her sweet girl Scout who was recently diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, so I am asking if all of you could drop by and say HI when you have a minute.

This is going to be a wrap for me today, I am beyond exhausted but first I want to give a great big THANK YOU to JoAnn over at Sand Spring Chesapeakes who has given this blog a very wonderful award. I am so honored to accept it!

Isn’t it beautiful! I will be following up on the details to this award next week.

Very beautiful. Happy day after Black and White Sunday (we’re more like the tortoise than the hare this week!).

Oh Miss Harper Lee I am right far behind you Winking smile

Gizmo said…

Beautiful! I’ve tried shooting rabbits but I’m just not quick enough (or maybe not quiet enough)

2browndawgs said…

Great picture. We have bunnies in our yard but I never catch a picture of them.

I don’t think I was as quick as I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time. We just happened to stop to look at a house and when I pulled in I saw these guys fly across the yard, running and playing, they were bouncing all over the place. So you see I missed some great shots by time I got the camera out and jumped out of the van but I finally did get a few like this one.

Wordless Wednesday ~ Orange Moon

easyweimaraner said…

That’s great – I had no clue that an orange moon exists. I’ll bet this moon is magic :o )

Heart Like A Dog (@HeartLikeADog) said…

Awesomeness. My pictures of the moon never come out nice.

This was taken on June 23 very early in the morning, we were staying at my friends for the weekend for the Judges Education Seminar and I had gotten up to let the dogs out. I was doing one dog at a time so I didn’t  wake anyone, so I had walked outside with the first one and looked up and saw this beauty so of course when I swapped out dogs I grabbed my camera. I have never seen the moon so orange, I found some interesting things about it here and also here.

Jodi I honestly take at least a dozen photos before I get one that is somewhat usable. I was told it has something to do with camera shake when you zoom as much as I do to try to get a good close up shot. I have the setting on my camera set to help with that but I haven’t noticed where it has made much difference. If I had a tripod it might help, for this one I finally rested my elbows on the banister of the deck to try and stabilize myself. Here are a few of my failed attempts…

This ‘N That Thursday

Thank you all for the lovely comments and compliments. The Ridgeback’s were so beautiful and such a majestic breed. I think the heat and humidity was getting to everyone and yes Jodi it really does suck the life right out you Winking smile

Now last but certainly not least I have a confession to make…I am a bad doggie mom! I forget to put up a post about a very special day that occurred on Sunday, a birthday.

Cheyenne turned 10 years old, at least I didn’t forget her that day. She had a very yummy birthday cake. I can’t believe she is already 10, I look at her and think it just can’t be possible that all those years have passed. She is a very special girl who has given me such joy and unconditional love. She is my shadow!

She shared some with Riva and Maia but as you can see she was looking to see if they might have left some more for herSmile

Follow-up Friday

follow-up-friday

Thanks Jodi!

I want to thank GizmoGeodog for telling me what a crape myrtle tree is. I googled them so I could see for my self what they look like and Gizmo was not kidding about their beauty, I bet even more so in real life!

This is a big weekend for us, not only because it is the 4th of July but we have a dog show on Saturday, not just any dog show but Hailee’s first show with Riva. She has been practicing and in the beginning she was getting frustrated which in turn caused Riva to get nervous. My friend Michelle and I talked to her and explained that when you have that lead on your dog it is a lifeline that connects the both of you and what you feel your dog feels because it travels right down the lead. So she has been trying to relax and just have fun, really praising Riva while they practice and it is paying off because they are moving much better as a team Smile  I have tried to tell her all the things the judge might say or have the handlers and dogs do. I’m sure I will have a great follow-up for you next week on our weekend and hopefully some photos too.

Dove Nesting

I loved that I was able to get this shot, my brother and I had stopped to look at an old farm house and as I was walking around the back yard I looked up and saw this beauty sitting on her nest. I was very careful not to get to close to spook her and used my zoom, which at times makes my pictures fuzzy because I over do it so I was pleased when I saw most of them were pretty clear.

Robin asked…

So, I’m curious if the dogs tracked that dove down or if you found it?

No dogs with me on this outing Robin, good thing, they probably would have scared her away Winking smile

easyweimaraner said…

It reminds me a little bit about christmas, I know that sounds crazy :o

Not crazy at all Easy, I can see how that would remind you of Christmas, all she needs is a little holly in her beak Smile

This is an apple tree Gizmo.

Now I have a question for you, what is a crepe myrtle? I have not heard of that tree before.

“What the heck is that bug?”

Bongo said…

“What a strange looking creature.”

Miss Harper Lee asked…

“Is that a real dragonfly?”

easyweimaraner asked…

“Is it a dragonfly?”

Jodi at Heart Like A Dog asked…

“WTF is that? It’s scary. I hope in color it’s some non-scary.“

Miss Harper Lee and easyweimaraner you are right, it is a dragonfly which just so happens to be my favorite bug Smile

And for Jodi at Heart Like A Dog here is the original, do you still think it is scary?

and this one is edited with the editor JoAnn from Sand Spring Chesapeakes hooked me up with so I could add some color to a B&W photo…

and the original…

Sand Spring Chesapeakes asked…

“is it your little barn?”

This is one of the barns on my friends over at Dusty Rose Chesapeakes grandpas farm where we do some of our training. I thought it looked kind of cool and would make a great B&W photo.

“What a gorgeous shot. What birds are those?”

Thank you so much, these are Sand-hill Cranes that wondered in to our family reunion last year. I was so excited to be able to get pretty close for photos and of course zoom helps too.

This ‘N That Thursday

Heart Like A Dog (@HeartLikeADog) asked…

“Can you explain about the latex babies?”

and

Flea asked…

“Wait – you give her fake babies two months after a heat? That’s … is that the normal thing to do?”

Sorry I wasn’t more clear in my post…Maia is going through a false pregnancy. The latex babies are not anything I gave her, she has picked one very special latex toy that she thinks is her baby and packed it around very gently in her mouth, slept with it tucked up to her and if she couldn’t find it she would get a bit frantic; which this was my indication she may be having a false pregnancy. The litter was added to when she decided that the little latex football and latex crab made very nice babies too. Female dogs do this sometimes and Maia’s mother, Riva did it almost every heat cycle. She was starting to get a bit over board with it so I took them away (weaned Winking smile) to see if she would just get over it quickly, so far so good. I didn’t have time today but I will try to find some info on it and post next Friday for you guys.

Well that’s a wrap, why don’t you grab the badge and join the hop!
