Yesterday was my family reunion, I don’t know abut you but I LOVE to get together with family, it’s always a good time! My lemonade pie was a huge hit, both pies gone in a flash and I put two – 2lb. boxes of fudge in the raffle, people were trying to be the first to get it off the raffle table, I was even offered cash for a box of it Laughing out loud Anyway, I try to get around to almost everyone and catch up, while doing this I was chatting with one of my cousins whose profession is job assistance to students. She asked how my job search was going and I shared my last interview details with her, she then told me about a conference she had just attended about getting connected with employers and said that Twitter is the new way of getting in the loop for jobs…who knew! Apparently there are a lot of employers out there who use this to post for open positions.

I know some of you Tweet but I will be honest I really didn’t understand the whole Twitter thing. So today I did a little web search to try to understand it and yes I now have Twitter, check it out on my sidebar. The task in front of me is to go back through all the places I sent resumes to and see if they Tweet and if so start following. And yes I have to get familiar with the whole process, I played around with it a bit and Tweeted some of my posts from here and I am now following some of you that I found on my to follow list. I haven’t used it on my phone yet, I would assume it is the same.

Now I have some questions….

1. Can I have more than one account so I can keep all my blog stuff separate from job stuff?

2. If I can’t do 1. then I need to use my real name, oooh scary stuff, I have always liked that I am Misty to everyone in Blogville and I would hate to loose that so what do others think of using their actual identity on Twitter? If I do please tell me you will still call me Misty, Misty Shores or recently I have been referred to as MSC (I like that one too), LOL

3. How do you like Twitter?

4. When you Tweet your blog post do you copy and paste the link or do you use the Twitter button at the end of your post? I did it both ways just not sure which is correct. I’m a little confused on the Tweeting part Winking smile

5. And that whole trends thing, way off, definitely not me, how they have come up with the stuff listed there from my info is beyond me, so did you change yours if it didn’t fit?

So any comments, suggestions or helpful hints would be greatly appreciated by this newbie Twitter TweeterOpen-mouthed smile

  2. If you figure twitter out, let me know, I am still trying…lol. There is a way to connect your blog to your twitter account through wordpress, but it doesn’t work all of the time (at least for me). I do know that you can have more than one account. I have a personal and a blog, just like FB.

      After I posted I remembered about the wordpress thing, yea it sounds like it works as well as the fb one. lol

  3. I love Twitter, but I tweet my personal stuff and blog from the one Twitter account – so some of my tweets may be a little more *ahem* colourful than my blog tweets. When I post a blog, I make sure it publishes to Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, but I also go back 2 or 3 times each day to Twitter and tweet a little teaser intro then attach the shortlink to the tweet. I find this then catches friends around the world – although they may follow my blog, they don’t necessarily subscribe! I just did a search for MistyShoresBog though and Twitter is telling me there’s nothing there :/ You can find me at bumpyroadtobubba or @princessmaryjo. The great thing about tweeting is that we can retweet each other’s blogs and hopefully get more readers! I do that with Sage, Bassa, Deanna (For Love of My Dogs) and a whole host of other blog friends!

    1. Good information to know. It’s a little overwhelming. I wonder if it may be because I just started it today, would our time difference be why?
      So how do I do a separate account, it would not let me use my email again, of course I may not have been doing it right either 🙂

  5. I love family gatherings. It’s a great way to catch up for lost quality family time and reminisce happy and fun memories. As for Tweeter, it is a great place to meet and discover talented people. I use it share my post and that of my blogger friends. It is all about sharing and giving. Beautiful post Misty. Thanks.

  6. I started on Twitter three years ago to talk to people with dogs around the would. I wanted to understand different cultures with dogs and see different countries where they live. I wanted to learn about different breeds of dogs. I use the same tylersat99 for twitter as I do for Blogs. You can have more than one twitter account for different purposes with different names, but as mentioned must have separate email. They keep changing (they call it improving) so you have to keep learning and adjusting. What have I left out that I should answer?

  7. Just wanted to add, on Twitter I can carry on a conversation, send pictures, send videos, get the short link from YouTube and Blog and post. You can send a DM (direct message) that only goes to one person. You can also talk to everyone you follow or use @ and just talk to one or a few. I will shut- up now 🙂

  8. Welcome to Twitter 🙂 I use Twitter but with so much going on I find it hard to keep up with the tweets from people I follow. It’s good for quick status updates. I also find Twitter sometimes gets a little overloaded and I have to refresh the page several times.

  9. It takes a while to get the hang of Twitter – I’ve been on Twitter for several years now, and I still don’t really “get it”. But, I joined when I was working as a corporate recruiter, so I can confirm that yes, many employers are now using Twitter to find candidates to fill their open jobs. It’s a great way for candidates to follow companies they are interested in and connect with recruiters or people who work there. I think it’s more important to be on LinkedIn for a job search – are you using LinkedIn? Now I just use Twitter to follow other dog people, which is a lot of fun, but can also be a lot to keep up with (in addition to blogging, Facebook, etc.).     1. Thanks for the info Laurie and I’m glad to have confirmation from someone who knows about the employer/twitter thing first hand, I’d hate to think I had wasted time on it. I am on LinkedIn, I set that up a couple of months ago. I agree about Twitter being a lot to keep up with, shew 🙂 My biggest thing I have come across lately with the job search is that some of the jobs I have applied for ended up going through a service that I can’t seem to find good info on so now I have started to get a bit leery about stuff. Any tips on safe sites to use? I am currently using Career Builder, indeed, and I have also checked craigslist.

      1. What service is it? I would be leery too if I couldn’t find any info on it (especially in this day and age when information is so readily available). Indeed, CareerBuilder and Craig’s List are all good sites. You may also want to try going directly to the websites of the companies you are targeting and also to the websites of any trade associations that represent your industry/occupation. Another option is to go through a staffing company that specializes in your field (if there is one near you). And don’t spend all of your time online – networking offline is really important for a job search! Good luck!

  12. Misty, You can have two accounts but I don’t recommend. Simply because it’s hard enough keeping track of one, and you may get confused at some point and tweet something to the wrong account. Maybe you’ll be logged into one account, thinking you’re actually logged into the other. Then, voila, you tweeted something you didn’t want the other acct to see. Plus, it’s hard enough growing your followers–let alone two sets of followers. Trust me, it’s going to be a lot more work keeping them straight. Best thing to do, if you don’t want blogger friends to know your real identity, use Misty Shores for both. You can always explain to your work friends, who know you as both. That’s what I did: @monicastangled is my twitter name. If you have to have two, then start out with just one until you get the full grasp of it, then you can expand to two accounts later. And that’s my two cents!

    1. Thanks Monica. I do have two accounts but I don’t tweet on the one I use for job resources. I see what you mean about things getting confused though, I try to remember to always log off of the job one so I stay logged in to my blog one.
