Paws and Pedals asked…
“What’s on the collar? Some sort of training device??”
Thank you for asking, yes this is a training collar called an e-collar (electronic collar). This is a wonderful tool when doing our retriever training as long as it is used properly. A dog must be collar conditioned before you can use an e-collar, using collar corrections on lead for obedience commands the dog already knows; this teaches the dog the invisible connection between the dog and the handler that the collar provides. As with any training tool it is wise to seek the assistance of a professional to assure you are using the equipment properly. I am very fortunate I have the privilege of working with great trainers.

tarynft asked…
“What’s floating on the water?”
Sand Spring Chesapeakes you guessed it, cottonwood blooms. They were everywhere that day, I don’t think I have ever seen that many and so thick before. It was just like snow in 70 degree weather ![]()

I really need a way to slow time down, or stop it all together for a week or two so I can catch my breath and get caught up on everything I am behind on ![]()
Well I missed the maiden flight of the little robins, these are the last photos I was able to shoot. I saw them Saturday morning and could tell it would probably be the next day they would fly but I didn’t get home in time and sure enough the nest was empty; I am happy they all made it though.
I shot this with my phone so the quality is pretty poor, but you can still see how big they are. There is a fourth one in there somewhere and it amazed me how they all fit in that little nest.
Last week while at training we were fortunate enough to see a little group of baby wood ducks swimming around in the pond. They were very small and kept to one end of the pond so were able to still run dogs on water retrieves.
These shots are from the end of the pond we were working in, so then I walked down to see if I could get a closer look…
We never saw an adult with the babies but if you don’t know what a full grown wood duck looks like you can see one here These are my favorite duck!
Loving this weather we have had today here in Michigan, hoping it lasts through the weekend so we can get a good training day in on Saturday. We will be doing retriever training and I hope we will get to do a little conformation training, which had been put on hold due to an injury…let me back up a bit on that. Last week Hailee was walking Riva around the block and they passed a house with a dog in a fenced in yard, a 2-1/2 – 3 foot fence, on their second trip around the dog leaped the fence and went after them. I think the dog was probably going more for Riva but I wasn’t with them so I can’t say for sure. Anyway it scared Hailee and she started to run, she tripped and fell letting go of Riva’s leash and Riva kept going until she realized Hailee didn’t have a hold on her leash anymore and my sweet girl came back and sat next to her until she could pull herself together and get up. She injured both her knees pretty bad and sprained her wrist. Now the part of this scenario that really bothers me is that after the owners came and retrieved their dog they never came back out to see if she was okay or offer any kind of assistance to her…what kind of people do this? I would have been so apologetic if my dog did something like that and I certainly wouldn’t just walk away and leave the person laying on the side walk. I just hope they take care in correcting the problem and keep their dog better contained.
Well that wraps up Thursday, why don’t you grab the badge and join the fun!

“I’m sorry, but looking at those (beautiful) photos of Maia and Titan, all I could think was: ticks! (I have ticks on the brain these days… lol)”
Funny she should mention ticks… I found one on the side of my temple area the other day when I pulled my hair back, and I hadn’t even been out in the woods or out of my own back yard for that matter. FREAKED ME OUT!!!!! It was small and must have just got on me because he wasn’t really attached yet, been feeling like bugs are crawling on me since. I have preventative on the dogs, maybe I should put some on too ![]()
I had a good time playing with the editing on this one, I used befunky again, this editor seems to work the best for me so far and it is free. On this one I used the b&w edit and then used an edit called charcoal. These were some photos I took back in 2010 at Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad.

so here you go Jodi…
I really feel so fortunate to have been able to see these little guys grow.
Jodi at Heart Like A Dog asked…
“Wow, how did you get that close?”
These guys built their nest right in the crook of the downspout in the corner of my porch, so all I have to do is climb up on the railing which is about a foot wide so I have a good footing. The adult birds let me get very close and snap away.
Well that’s a wrap, looking forward to training and hanging with friends tomorrow. What do you all have planned for the weekend?

Yesterday I posted a picture of the little robins, so today I thought I would share some more. It isn’t going to be long now and they will be leaving the nest. There are four little babies and I was surprised to find out that both the male and female take turns feeding them.
This is mom and dad, sorry a little blurry.
These next four are from today.
I have enjoyed watching these fascinating birds and their babies. Last year I found another nest and started to take pictures but then a big crow came along and well… I won’t go into the gruesome details but needless to say after loosing one baby I think the adults moved the others to a new location. I hope I am around the day they start to leave the nest so I can get more photos.
Well looking at the weather for the weekend looks like we might get some training in on Saturday. Hopefully we will be able to get some more water training in, I have been trying to get a great photo of one of the dogs launching themselves. I did get this one last week…
This is Dandy
And this one I took several years ago of Remington, sadly he passed away last year. Remmy was a wonderful boy!
And here is one of Cheyenne…

This one was edited with a vintage look, I like it because it left his eyes green.
Sand Spring Chesapeakes asked
“Who’s kitty?”
This is my kitty BW…you guessed it, that stands for black and white
He was a stray who took up residence on our porch shortly after we moved in nine years ago and soon moved in to the house as a permanent resident
He is the best cat, just as sweet as he can be, and a great mouser!

They will be here for the next seven weeks, yeah!! Here they are today, they have grown and matured a lot.

Boy isn’t that the truth! The harder I try the farther behind I seem to get. So glad I am not the only one.

“hope your training didn’t get rained out.”
We were lucky and had good weather while training but shortly after we were done the skies turned dark and it poured! We worked on water marks today, and the dogs loved getting wet on such a hot day.
Here a few photos of Titan…
